A number of college students nationwide were asked why they got involved and belonged to a campus ministry. The following is a list of their responses:
- The people are honestly interested in me as a person, and I can share how my week is going.
- We have a common bond as Christians and Lutherans and feel comfortable.
- You know someone is paying attention to you and taking an active interest in your life.
- Free food! Talking around the dinner table gives us an opportunity to get to know each other.
- The welcoming and friendly nature of the group.
- People will hold you accountable in a positive way and pray for you.
- You have positive social activities that are not too overwhelming, including: weekly dinners and prayers, retreats, intramural sports, service opportunities and host familes.
- The community is small enough to recognize and support individuals.
- Retreats help students feel connected.
As you can see, campus ministry is making a difference to students in a variety of ways. For more information, or to view the article from which this information was used, visit ELCA.
